We've got about twenty years of hands-on roofing experience behind this work. Gutters are the bottom edge of a roof, which is the part of a house we've worked on longest. We look at the roof edge, the drip edge, the fascia and the gutter as one thing. Water that gets behind a gutter isn't a gutter problem at all. A crew that only knows gutters chases it in the wrong place. While we're up there, we look at the rest of the outside too. The storm that dented the gutters hit everything else on its way past.
Gutters Sized for the Roof Above Them
We size a gutter to the roof that drains into it, not off a shelf. Most gutters that overflow here aren't broken. They were never big enough, or never had enough downspouts, for the roof above them.
- Full replacement, first-time gutters, new construction, or gutters fitted alongside a new roof, so the drip edge and fascia are opened once, not twice.
- Five inch handles most roofs. Six inch earns its place on a large roof area, a steep pitch, valleys draining into one section, or a run limited to one outlet. A larger gutter is heavier, and the fascia has to carry it.
- Downspouts decide capacity as much as the gutter does. A long run needs more than one outlet, and the water has to land somewhere useful, clear of the foundation and off a walkway or a neighbor's yard.

What Makes a Gutter System Last Here
Two gutter systems can look identical from the street and behave completely differently under hail or a load of ice. The differences that matter here never show up on a quote.
- Seamless, formed on site from a coil, removes the joints down the run, where sectional gutter usually starts dripping. Corners, end caps and outlets are where a seamless system leaks if it leaks.
- Metal thickness matters in hail country. Thin builder-grade aluminum dents under thousands of hail hits in a few minutes; thicker metal survives ladders and ice loading better.
- Hanger spacing and pitch hold the system up in January. Closer spacing carries more weight, and every run should fall toward an outlet, since standing water freezes, expands and works everything loose.
- Gutter guards cut down how often a gutter needs clearing; they don't end it. We fit guards as part of a replacement and will tell you straight whether they'd earn their place.

What size gutters do I need?
Five inch suits most ordinary roofs. Six inch earns its place when a big roof area drains into one run, or when the pitch is steep enough to throw water past a smaller trough. Size on its own doesn't settle it, though. A correctly sized gutter with too few outlets still spills over in a downpour.
Do I need gutters at all in a dry climate?
Yes, and it isn't really optional. Storms here deliver water in short heavy bursts rather than steadily, so a roof sheds a lot of water fast with nowhere for it to go.
Do you install gutter guards?
Yes, as part of putting a new gutter system on. We put guards on while we're replacing the gutters rather than adding them to an existing run as a job of their own, so the time to decide is at the measure. Tell us what your house sits under and we'll say whether they're worth it.
What happens if the fascia is rotten when the old gutters come off?
We deal with it before the new system goes on, and you hear about it beforehand rather than after. Nobody can see that board until the old gutter is off it, so it's the most common surprise on this job. Hanging new metal on soft wood just buys a season.
Can new gutters be financed?
Yes, through Hearth, so a full system doesn't have to wait for a good month.
