Why Roofs Wear Out Faster in Colorado
A roof here isn't doing the same work a roof does in a mild climate. Four things wear it down, and they don't take turns.
- Hail. This part of the country gets more large hail than anywhere else in the world. The damaging season runs from the middle of spring through to the middle of September.
- Wind. The hard wind here arrives in the cold months, off the mountains. It lifts and creases shingles instead of tearing holes in them. The damage often waits until the next melt to leak.
- Freezing and thawing. We cross back and forth over the freezing point several times in one winter week rather than staying cold. Water gets into a small crack, freezes, and makes it bigger. Small problems don't stay small here.
- Sun. We're high up here, and the sun is harder on a roof at this elevation than at sea level.
Those four are the weather. The fifth one is inside the house. A roof with too little ventilation under it runs hot all summer and damp all winter, and it wears out early for reasons that have nothing to do with a storm. It's the only item on this list you can actually do something about. The right time is when the roof comes off.
That's why we work here all year rather than only after storms. And it's why a roof that looked fine in June is worth a second look in February.

What kinds of roofing work do you do on a house?
Roof replacement, roof repair, roof inspection, storm and hail damage, and emergency work. On a house that usually means shingles. The work runs from one cracked vent collar right up to a full tear-off. Some houses have a flat run over a porch or an addition. We handle that as part of the shingle roof around it.
How do I know whether I need a repair or a whole new roof?
We have to get up there and look, and the honest answer is a repair more often than people expect. Two things change the answer. How much of the roof is affected, and how much life the rest of it has left. Damage in one place on a roof with years left is usually a repair. Failures showing up on several slopes at once usually aren't. We'll tell you when a repair is genuinely enough.
Do you work with insurance companies?
Yes. A large part of what we do is storm and hail work on claims. We do the estimating and the supplementing in house, not out. We write the estimate in the same format your insurance company uses. When the scope comes back missing something, we argue it line by line rather than leaving you to absorb it.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof?
Yes. Whoever pulls the permit is the one who calls for the inspections, and on our jobs that's us.
How far do you travel?
Colorado and Wyoming. If you aren't sure whether your address is in range, call and ask us.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry general liability and workers compensation insurance. That matters for one plain reason. If something goes wrong on your property while we're working, that risk sits with us rather than with you.
Is anyone on your team Spanish-speaking?
Yes, some of our salespeople speak Spanish. If that would make things easier, say so when you call and we'll take it from there.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, through Hearth. It's worth asking about on any job you're paying for yourself rather than through a claim.
Who actually comes to my house?
Everyone we send to your home has been background checked. Once we're there, we look at the whole outside of the house, not only the roof. Hail and wind hit the gutters, the screens, the siding and the paint too. That's usually where the story starts.
